Pictures of Tay and Frosty as Promised

So here is the picture of the two on Christmas Eve day. Taylor is 27 months old (that is three months over two for you non kid friends) and Frosty is 36 1/2! I have had Frosty for 22 years as of Christmas 2005. We've been together longer then most married couples!
Christmas was quiet, quiet for us and quiet for the horses. We have begun to separate the youngest foal, Eloquence. She comes into the big stall with Elliott her older sister, and Secret and Cameron the two yearlings. However there are some boards that need fixed on the one side of the stall and it's about 2 foot 3 inches. So everynight after the grain is gone Elliott and Eloquence jump out! I guess I'm training them to sell them as jumpers. I need to take pictures of those two hairballs tomorrow and then I can post those!

A Stressful Day for Aspen

Ok so today I tried to add a picture! We'll see if it works. This Frosty, James, Taylor and I at a driving fun show in May. Frosty had just celebrated her 36th birthday a month before.
Today was a day of unloading hay, purchasing and unloading grain, and taking care of burning feed bags. After unloading hay....James went to pick up Taylor at her grandmother's. We took some pictures of Taylor riding Frosty bareback. I will download them this weekend to share. While waiting for them to arrive I went out to feed Aspen, Apple and Jillian and took off their blankets. Of course waiting and having Aspen stand by the gate. I slid up on him bareback, loose, in the field. He ate his grain and then started to go to cross the small stream over to the mares. I was about to jump off, but thought, he's going to be fine. And he was. For about 15 minutes. I just meandered around with him. Peanut me on his back. I think I'm going to start working him again! So later on Tay and I get back with the grain and who is laying flat out in the hay of the round bale but Aspen! We were there about 30 minutes and he never got up. I guess his "workout" got the best of him! Ok I am off to finish presents! Merry Christmas everyone!

Hey, your horses are out!

Well yesterday gram called about 1PM. "Maria, Holly Jumper just called and your horses are out. Two of them." I immediately knew it was Aspen (the stallion) and Apple his percheron wife. Great. I am 50 minutes away. Generally I wouldn't fret, but if Aspen runs the fence line or Apple gets to close Aspen may try to fight the geldings. So I called on Cathy Gray! Trusted friend living down the road. Not only did she get them in, but she also tied rope on each end of the gate so they won't flip the gate again! I guess they were easy to get in....or at least I hope! Everyone seemed fine last night.
This morning the farrier came, but I am at work. I did stop and held two yearlings for James. One had an abscess which is healing nicely, the other just doesn't like her feet done. They were good and then he was doing Sir when I left. Sir was loose in his stall just standing. He has to check poor Tweakers. She is getting her feet trimmed and I think we may just cut the last founder ring off, from when she foundered last May before I got her. She also is three legged lame. So I am hoping that she has an abscess. I told him to look hard! My husband is also unloading 180 bales of hay for me today! We'll get 180 more tomorrow. Then tonight the Christmas party for the kids that ride and board. Fun fun! One of my kids mom's is selling their arab mare. Today I got an email from the lady that raised and bred this mare who is 15 years old now. She wants to buy her for her daughter! Great news and perhaps a Christmas present for TWO families! I have high speed at home now and am on AIM, my user name is equitericmaria if anyone wants to chat!

Getting Started

Well I thought I would start my own blog to routinely update everyone on how my horses are doing (and us occastionally) and who is new and who has left! Ok I did it, the farrier is coming tomorrow and James is holding the horses. So decide who is getting down, who got down in November and who can wait. I wrote down on paper who we have! There are 26 horses right now. Scary? No, I thought there were more! Basically everyone lives with a barnyard available, so it's not hard. Frosty of course at 36 comes in, along with some low on the pecking order at the broodmare barn. Yes we are still at three barns. The lesson horses and Aspen with two of his mares, the broodmare, young horse barn, and then Movado is still at Gram's. Recently we sent Cassie and Savvy (a welsh/qh foal) up to NY to Blue Chip Riding Club. I'm not sure what Cassie will do, but Va, my friend, really likes her attitude! Most recently, Danni the Selle Francais/Percheron went to Alberta Canada! This was a long trip for her! She was on and off the trailer a full week and just arrived Tues. It seems that the trip took it's toll on her, but she arrived sound and healthy! We had two CB/TB foals this year. Elliott born April 7th out of Jillian and Eloquence born July 7th out of Curly. Eloquence is praying she will become a cheesehead! :) She has an admirer who is serious about purchasing her, if only the timing works now! We have also added to our family Cameron. A yearling paint colt who is chestnut with a flaxen mane and has a bald face and two blue eyes. He is a love and will eventually fill Sir's huge shoes. Secret a yearling QH filly has also joined us with Cameron and is up for sale. Speaking of Sir, he is still here! Sept 10th, he was given 3 months to live and we were told he had a bladder tumor. It's looking more like a stone, he is still healthy, just urinates a lot. After the holidays we may to to Cornell. Taylor is also fine, she is the human child! She is two now, talks and keeps us on our toes! I'll post pictures soon!
